Cacao Maca Meltdown
When we hear the term, "superfood" we think of healthy, nutrient packed foods like quinoa, kale, and almonds. And while those foods are a great bulking source to our diet, the term superfood means waaaay more than a ton of plant based protein and vitamin C! I recently picked up a copy of Superfoods by David Wolfe, and let me tell you, I feel like I've stumbled onto a whole new world of nutrition! In the words of Mr. Wolfe, SUPERfoods are those that:
- Meet and EXCEED all of our protein//vitamin//mineral//glyconutrient (think healthy, complex carbs)//fatty acid requirements
- Correct imbalances in our immune systems that can decrease optimal functioning
- Have elements of both food AND medicine (they help us get better)
And VERY relevant to the weight/fat loss journey that some of us are on, SUPERfoods:
Help us overcome Metabolic Syndrome X (consuming mineral-deficient food, food sprayed with pesticides, antibiotic treated meat, hormonally altered dairy products, refined sugar/grains/salt) which keeps us from losing the weight we want and causes us to function in a verrrry low energy state. Who wants to live like that!
With ALLLL that being said, it's time to take our nutrition to the next level! Whether you are a newbie to nutrition and fitness looking to get lean in 2017, or an athlete looking for an extra (ALL Natural) boost on the competition, superfoods can help you get to YOUR next level. This recipe calls for not 1, not 2, but THREE awesome superfoods to help our bodies feel GREAT on the inside and sexy on the outside! These products are all super accessible at any health-food focused grocery store (think Whole Foods, Sprouts, even Trader Joes!) at an affordable price. Grab those ingredients and try out this super nutritious smoothie recipe for breakfast, post workout, or even as a late night chocolaty goodness indulgence!
Have fun taking control of your health :)
